  What benefit is all the power of people's lives to the Governing Body?

  if the 7 million jw's mindlessly follow the governing body (which the majority do), of what benefit is it to the governing body?

  that power over people's lives is nothing to boast about in my books.

  i conclude that the only reason they so desire this power is because it brings money, authority and security to them.

  Hello Jeckle,

  I apologize for using wrong terms. When I used the word church, "most Christian churches", I was actually referring to Christian religions. I believe the JW Governing Body lifestyle should be compared not with ministers and leaders of individual churches but with the leadership of most Christian religions. In that regard I believe the Governing Body cannot be charged with living higher on the hog than most leaders of Christian religions. And of course just like most leaders of Christian religions the JW Governing Body also lives a softer and more secure life than their members do.

  I hope you know that I'm not here to defend the Governing Body, but compared to the rather palatial surroundings of the Cardinals and Bishops of the Catholic Church or the comforts allowed those who are the top leaders of most Christian churches, the Governing Body's comforts would appear rather small. You cannot compare the living standards of priests to the Governing Body, the top level in the religion, a fair comparison would be the highest order in the Church, the Pope and the Cardinals and Bishops, who I imagine travel quite a bit and in comfort.

  The Governing Body members believe they are appointed by God to lead, this is enough for them. They have no great wealth, but they do have security in that they have an apartment, health care and so on. But by the standards of many religious leaders they are by no means rich or materially privileged as many religious leaders are.

  Someone on this thread mentioned Thomas Jefferson and the fact that he was a Deist. Perhaps they are already aware of Jefferson's collection of Jesus' teachings entitled by Jefferson himself as, "The Life and Morals of Jesus of Nazareth, Extracted Textually from the Gospels in Greek, Latin, French & English." Jefferson did not believe Jesus was the Son of God but he did admire his teachings and his personal integrity and extracted these from the Gospels in his collection. It is today called, The Jefferson Bible, though he himself never meant to have it called such. I believe it is still in print.

  Are the children of a state the responsibility of the state?

  a few months back the newly appointed governor of wisconsin, scott walker, took a lot of heat for the monetary policies he put in place.

  i remember hearing him make statements to the crowds regarding the future of the "children of wisconsin.

  " he made a point to mention the children's future in regard to their debt that was feared as too big for the future to handle.. how would governor walker react to witness child policies if he was told what actually takes place in many congregations of jehovah's witnesses.

  Many people are "around kids consistantly" their teachers, their neighbors, their family members, etc. Every child who attends a church, a school function, a neighborhood recreation area etc on a regular basis, is exposed to possible encounters with abusers. Just walking down the street has become a hazard. I'm no friend of the Governing Body but we must at the very least use common sense and keep a balance when accusations are made.

  Hello Robdar,

  Thank you for the link. This young man experienced an emotional connection to religion not too dissimilar from many Christians. His spine tingled, he found himself speaking in tongues etc. This is not the religion Jesus taught. Jesus did not teach speaking in tongues. It is an emotional experience foreign to the teachings of Jesus.

  "Graceful degradation" is the natural result of a religious belief based on the teachings of men and not God.

  Atrocities are not limited to a religion or culture. The Iraq war of 2003 was an atrocity. The Vietnam war was also. To hold a country's economy hostage for the sake of political gain, which is what is happening in the U.S. today, is also an atrocity considering that so many here are hurting economically.

  Destroying the world to save it, is exactly what happened in Iraq and Vietnam and even threatened today in the U.S. Let's not confuse the desires of men for power with religion. Men greed for power, it matters little if it is religious or political power.
